Hoping It Wasn’t Another Muslim

When I woke Sunday morning to the breaking news from Orlando
I thought of a portion of the ESL students
and hoped,
as I felt certain they were hoping,
it wasn’t another Muslim.
These things are very hard on them.*

*I try not to refer to them as ‘them,’ but I’ve done it here.
