What I Love and Hate about Being a Writer

THE THING I HaTe about being a writer
is the way stuff sticks,
even when you don’t want it to.
Not everything.
Just randomly.

Little stuff –
remarks,
silences,
a sign on a gate –
they stick in your thoughts,
crystal clear,
and all the while
you can’t say for sure your socks match today
and don’t want to be caught
looking down to check.

BUT THE THING I LoVe about being a writer
is the way stuff sticks,
and keeps looping back,
and you know
this is something you need to write about,
even if you don’t know how or why.

It is one nutty thing,
this business of writing. 🙂
