How It Starts/Excerpt from My NaNoWriMo Project

Matchbox cars

NaNoWriMo is going well.
An excerpt from my project:

That’s how it starts,
in a moment,
like all grief.

You’re one minute
lining up the Matchbox cars
parade-like
on the floor,
playing with children,
and there comes a ring
on the phone.

Life as you know it
is about to be
boxed up and put away.
If you’d known,
you’d have had a proper farewell.”
