boys who treat their mothers well

Heavy traffic on Memory Lane these days. Today, a short musing.

EARLY ON
I overheard him
talking on the phone
with his mother

and
after some discussion with my best friend,
we both agreed
about boys who talk nice to their mothers,
that they’ll probably be worth the keeping.

Turned out true, that. 🙂

Off to visit the woman on the other end of that conversation,
mother-in-law to me near 38 years now
.

Your post is so true, I mostly remember good conversations with my boys. Give her (and Pappy) my best!

When my son met his ‘now wife’ she told me years later that the reason she dated him and wanted him in her life was because of the way he talked about his mother. I was surprised about that because I always seemed hard with him making him mind the rules every day… day in and day out. He has become a wonderful man of integrity and a wonderful husband and father and I hope ‘my’ little bit of influence had something to do with it and of course his dad too.

Oh, I so agree! My husband dotes on his mom lovingly. When he buys her what she needs, whether clothing or a walker, I encourage him wholeheartedly. Honouring our parents is a sign of health and goodness.
