When the Mundane becomes Noteworthy

AFTER THE TRIPLE HEADER
dirt
is washed off
the cooler
taken to the ball fields
full of water

and the injuries sustained –
scrapes, scratches and bruises,
each with its own story.
Yes, I am listening.

FINAL SCORE, rarely known,
but
win or lose
we are always ahead by one
to me.

Already
3 years it’s been
since we were told,
“It’s a new ballgame now.”
And true enough, that.
We play more.

And the mundane things of life
a cooler draining –
seem as noteworthy
as headline news.
More even.
