Has Summer Gotten Away from Me?

I fear missing the present
and signs I may have
throw a scare into me.

WHILE WE SLEPT
gold tassels
grew out the top of cornstalks.

And across from the greenhouses
fields are full
with mums ripening toward autumn.

Has summer gotten away from me?
Have I missed it?

DAILY NOW
I peek
out the kitchen door
to see if a bag has been left
on the bench.

A taciturn neighbor
with a green thumb
grows
each year
more tomatoes than he needs.
Happy beneficiary, me.

I never catch him,
this summer Santa,
just evidence of his having paid a visit,
no note attached. None needed.
I get the message:
Summer is upon us this very moment.
Enjoy!

It all goes by far to fast, like a ride long lined up for at a theme park! I want it to go on and on and feel a little sad every year when I see signs that it may be over already. How blessed we are to know that another one comes again next year! 🙂 Yes, we have to truly enjoy the moments “now.”

Lucky you, with those beautiful tomatoes on the windowsill! We’ve got a an abundance of tomatoes in my husband’s garden, so I hopped over here to find a certain tomato pie recipe you posted long ago but, no luck. Perhaps you’ll repost it? Or email it? (*hint hint*)
