A few weeks ago I read a post about what it takes to write a book. The blogger named five things, the same five things needed to accomplish most anything:
- passion – enough steam to see it through; it is not enough to run on someone ELSE’s passion
- confidence – believing in what you are doing and that it’s worth it.
- focus – a sense of direction; fine-tuning the goal so it’s not wishy-washy; you will need it to guide you when you go astray, so take the time to identify where you hope to land
- plan – evidence of serious thought given to how to get from point A to point B; yes, you may get a redirect along the way, you may need to make adjustments, but are you stewarding what you DO know at this point by doing the work of thinking it through?
- the writing – the real WORK of the thing; ‘dirt under your nails’, so to speak; LOTS of people talk about writing, gardening, cooking, building things, going back to school, BUT are they actually at the computer, in the dirt, in the kitchen, picking up the hammer, filling out the application? Ah, THERE’s the dividing line between someone who is serious and someone who is just dreaming.
It’s almost SPRING here. Planting time. Maybe time to pick ONE thing you’ve been dreaming about and move into the actual DOING of it?
