WHAT I LOVED BEST,
no schedule was passed out.
(One was posted
if you cared to look at it,
I discovered the the last morning.
I’m glad I didn’t know earlier.)
We were told what was happening
the next few hours,
the next half-day.
A bell would be rung to signal mealtime
or gathering time,
no need to be bogged down with the rest.
Loved that.

I love the thought of a real “retreat”–retreat. Lovely.
Me too! I loved the relaxed schedule. The time to simply “be” in community with others, unhurried with breathing space and time to connect, share stories, simply share a small, early morning “circle of light.”
Such deep refreshment came from that rest.
I never inspected that bell, never took note of the beautiful ropework. Thank you for sharing it.
Must admit, I kept thinking of the line, “Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee.”
