IF YOU SEE ME
out and about these days
and peek on the passenger’s seat
you’re likely to find
this book,
and nearby,
a pen.
Because a girl
never knows
when there might be
a long wait,
a lull between things,
some down time
(maybe by the river)
and
oh look,
how’d that coffee and bagel get in my car?
Might as well make a picnic of it
with the book
and, of course, the pen.
I TRIED HARD NOT TO.
I really did.
But in the end
it was just easier
to put away the notepad
and write directly in the margins
discussion questions
for my imaginary writers’ group.
That last sentence needs a rewrite, but it’s getting late and I can’t think clearly.
Have fun musing the possible meanings and if you know how it ought to go, let me know.

Expect to hear more about this book:

“and bagels” (crossed out) TOO funny!
I’m looking forward to hearing MORE about the book through your eyes and pen… (maybe even imagining myself as part of your imaginary writer’s group.)
What an intriguing post. I now have another book to wish for irrationally (because I already have so many good ones yet to read! )
I’d send you my copy, except…..I’ve written in the margins and it’s a keeper!
Yes! I’m writing about “Rumors of Water” tomorrow, and I’ll probably have to do more than one post. It’s that good, isn’t it?
I’m getting a lot out of it! Can’t wait to read your post(s), Megan.
